David and Yulia are training Eastern European leaders with Campus Crusade for Christ from Budapest, Hungary. They serve 19 countries in Eastern Europe and also play a significant role in identifying and equipping elders to serve their local church.

The greeting “Christ is risen” and response “He’s risen indeed” are often heard on the streets of Slavic countries on Easter Sunday. Although friends, families, and even total strangers greet each other in this way, the expression has become a rote tradition void of meaning. Our desire is to fill this greeting with the life changing joyous news of our Savior’s resurrection.... “He is risen INDEED!!”
About one month ago I, David, was in Kiev, Ukraine, to train a group of young Ukrainian missionaries. The training, as part of raising up leaders, involved a survey of the New Testament. One morning, I traveled by underground subway across the city to meet with the young Ukrainians. As I waited for the next subway, I saw across the rails a large im-age etched into the tunnel wall… an image I had seen some twenty-five years earlier… a symbol of religious repression for almost a third of the world’s population at the time,… the crossed hammer and sickle.
Getting onto the subway, I saw a second image, masses of Ukrainians packed unto the subway. Twenty-five years earlier in Kiev, with the image of atheistic communism on my mind, and the masses of people who did not know Jesus before me, I prayed silently… I prayed the Lord would raise up laborers for His harvest in Ukraine. Now, twenty-five years later, I stood before
twenty-four Ukrainian laborers for Christ eager and ready to be trained… laborers the Lord of the harvest had raised up!!! They experienced the joyous news of our Savior’s resurrection and were proclaiming it to others. “His is risen INDEED!!”

History:
I, David, am a “village” boy whereas my wife, Yulia, is a “big city” girl hailing from Minsk, the capital city of the former communist country of Belarus, (population 3 million whereas my “village” has a population of 300!!). We lived and ministered in Tirana, capitol of the Muslim country of Albania. With the expansion of our responsibilities to include the rest of Eastern Europe and Russia (again focusing on Muslim areas), we recently moved to the country of Hungary. We have two sons, Tosha (Russian for Tony), born January 2007 and Evan (Hebrew for Rock) born November 2008.
